Our story

Rusticana Farm rests in the Highveld of Mpumalanga where our family has farmed for four generations, guided by faith and rooted in values of excellence, quality, and respect for scientific practices.

With the mounting pressures of the modern dairy farming industry, there was the option to expand to a large-scale industrial dairy. Driven by a commitment to uphold our values, we chose to reimagine our approach and embarked on a bold endeavor: breeding Wagyu cattle and Dormer sheep.

This moment of transformation, where necessity met innovation, allowed us to diversify into meat production while staying true to our principles of ethical animal husbandry and intentional farming practices.

Today, we proudly offer South African Wagyu beef and Highveld lamb. This transition hasn't just shaped our farm's future; it has redefined how we connect with our consumers. Rusticana Wagyu

Our cattle are meticulously raised with utmost respect for scientific and ethical principles. From the moment they are born, our Wagyu calves are nurtured in spacious, natural surroundings where they roam freely and graze on nutrient-rich Highveld grass. You may even find them taking an occasional dip in the dam!

Our commitment to the wellbeing of our cattle results in Wagyu beef known for its exceptional marbling, tenderness, and rich flavour profile.

Dormer Sheep

At Rusticana Farm we breed exclusively with Dormer sheep due to their superior meat quality.

We pride ourselves in exceptional breeding and feeding practices that yield tender, juicy, and flavourful meat.

The nutrient-dense grass of the Highveld contributes to the robust health and vitality of our sheep, as well as meat with its characteristic tender texture, hence the name “Highveld Lamb”.
