Farming Practices
What is the origin of your meat?
Our meat comes from our farm, Rusticana, in the Highveld of South Africa. We have farmed here for generations and pride ourselves on the quality, transparency and our our sustainable farming practices.
Wagyu is originally from Japan, and made its way to South Africa in 1999.
What does Certified Wagyu mean?
Certified Wagyu refers to beef that meets the stringent standards of the Certified Wagyu Beef Programme (CWB), as upheld by Wagyu South Africa.
This program ensures that the Wagyu you purchase is of the highest quality, with traceable genetics and raised according to strict guidelines. The certification guarantees the integrity of the Wagyu beef supply chain, providing consumers with premium, healthy, and authentic Wagyu beef that delivers an exceptional eating experience.
Rusticana is proud to be fully certified by Wagyu South Africa.
Are all animals pasture-raised?
Yes, all our animals are pasture-raised and then grain-finished. This approach ensures they have a natural, healthy diet and develop the rich marbling and flavor characteristic of premium Wagyu and lamb. By combining pasture grazing with controlled grain feeding, we achieve the perfect balance of taste and tenderness in every cut.
Antibiotics or hormones?
No, our Wagyu and lamb are raised without the unnecessary use of antibiotics or hormones. We prioritise sustainable farming practices, ensuring that your meat is pure, healthy, and free from any unnecessary additives. Our focus is on quality and transparency, so you can enjoy your meal with complete peace of mind.
